Learn how negative emotions can lead to stress and health conditions

Tangible power of words, thoughts and emotions

#Words and #thoughts can create emotional responses that can shape your reality. Just think

of how you react to music you like, and music you dislike.

For example, music has the power to create verbal, mental and emotional associations that can have powerful effects on your awareness and how even your body responds. In other words, music can affect your thoughts and feelings. By the same token, other things you hear (such as words), can also affect your thoughts and feelings. Similarly, don’t underestimate the tangible power and physical significance of what you think and feel.

Words can make you or break you

Don’t believe the adage that “sticks and stones can break your bones but words can never harm you”. Destructive words can have destructive effects on our emotions that can manifest negatively on our mental and physical wellbeing.

Just think of the effects of verbal abuse, cyber bullying, and emotional aggression. Youth suicide due to such destructive use of words by others is on the rise. Quite literally, given time and frequency, words not only have the power to harm, but also the power to kill. As a mini exercise, compare and be aware of your feelings towards the following pairs of expressions:

I love you / I hate you
