Use habits to establish purposeful patterns

Habits can be both positive and negative. If you have a detrimental habit, such as giving in to anxiety and freaking out, you can create a new habit with a purposeful pattern to address the bad habits.
So, a person who panics when they’re anxious can practice mindful breathing whenever they feel overcome with anxiety, and this new purposeful pattern can help relieve some of that anxiety over time.
See habits as computer commands that support the function of a program. For example, if we want to look fit and stay strong, we need to eat healthily and exercise. If we want to be more toned, we need to employ the proper exercise regimen that promotes our transformation.
Making an effort is painful and takes a lot of conscious and deliberate action. However, when we make it a habit and ingrain it as a pattern, becoming healthy and toned can thus become a natural path to who we become, and everything will seem much more automatic and easy. It can take at least 21 days to get used to a routine, and at least 66 days for a habit to become ingrained!
