Set yourself up to succeed with achievable milestones

Rome was not built in a day
Understand that the road to achieving any success is a string of small victories. Success is the fruit of numerous efforts, and is rarely an easy journey. Plan what you need to do to get to where you want to go.
Break down your strategy into small steps — divide and conquer. See the path to success as playing snakes and ladders. In a single turn, you can land on a ladder and reach higher ground. But in a single turn, you could also get devoured and spat out far back. It is a process, and constant evaluation is crucial to chart your progress.
What really matters is not giving up, and keep on going. Success relies on persistence and smart actions. Having a carefully mapped plan is no guarantee of immediate success, but it makes success easier to achieve.
Often, people fail because they give up too quickly, and/or they fall prey to the wish for instant gratification. On the road to success, endurance is king

Smart planning
Identify the gap that would bridge you from where you are now to where you want to be, and design small steps to move towards it. Determine the check points where you will take stock and evaluate your progress. And, chart a timeline to make sure that you move along in the right direction at a good pace.
Remember also, there is nothing wrong with slow progress. Just make sure you avoid detours or pit stops. Don’t stagnate! Even if you do not make obvious progression, take that time to recharge and gather your energies rather than losing momentum. Measure your performance at each checkpoint, reassess your situation, resource allocation, and strategy. Try and apply the SWOT approach:
Know your STRENGTH, WEAKNESS, OPPORTUNITIES and THREATS.
Don’t forget to give yourself credit for your efforts and celebrate every moment of small
success.
Most importantly, remember to give yourself some time to reflect, rest and recharge. Do not get burnt out. Give yourself time to recharge and play as the road to success should allow for some fun as well. Managing how you function and your energy level is simply a way of working smart.
